Apparently once a very beautiful and talented witch. She was so beautiful that Howl pursued her but upon finding that she was very selfish and conceded ran away, as usual. The Witch of the Waste uses her mgic to keep herself looking young and beautiful and lso to curse those who upset or anger her. In the movie adaptation, the Witch of the Waste is not nearly as terrifying. Her role remains largely the same in the first part of the movie, as she turns Sophie into a 90 year- old woman in her hat shop. However, unlike in the book, the Witch becomes somewhat of a protagonist. She loses her magical powers to Madame Suliman, who lured her to the castle in a trap. Madme Suliman later[[File:ImagesCA7OE4BM.jpg|thumb|left]] replaces her as the antagonist.
